Norma Hendrix, Executive Director of Cullowhee Mountain ARTS, will be your guide as you enjoy 8 art filled days in New Mexico. Ron Pokrasso’s Workshop: Spend 4 days studying with Master Printmaker Ron Pokrasso covering a wide range of techniques possible in the monotype process. Ron will take students through the use of collage, drawing, and multiple plate projects including a section on Solarplate. You will be encouraged to pursue your artistic vision using monotype as a mark making tool in combination with other techniques. Ron stresses the notion of the “artist as an inventor” when mixed media techniques open doors to limitless opportunities. Using Akua water-based inks and modifiers participants will begin with basic monotype techniques including ink mixing, additive/ subtractive applications, stencils / templates, working the “ghost” image and plate and paper registration. The use and abuse of mark-making tools, exploring the limits of paper, collage, chine colle, multiple plate printing, contact or trace monotype, viscosity, as well as solving issues after printing are all topics of the four days of high energy learning and printmaking.

includes: Workshop with all materials provided, housing + breakfasts, admission to museums/art centers, transportation to and from Santa Fe, first night group dinner at the “Santa Fe Cowgirl’s Hall of Fame” Restaurant).

“Filigree and Finery: The Art of Spanish Elegance”

Location: Museum of Spanish Colonial Art 505-982.2226
Event Type: Museum Events

…at the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, 750 Camino Lejo On Museum Hill, Santa Fe, NM  87505, 505-982-2226.  10:00AM-5:00PM Daily (PLEASE NOTE THE MUSEUM IS CLOSED MONDAYS FROM LABOR DAY TO MEMORIAL DAY.) Although Europeans often looked down upon the colonial settlers of the Americas, criticizing their lifestyle and comportment, they could not so easily dismiss their adornment. For here in the Spanish colonies, the colonists wore their wealth.  Despite laws concerning the use and wearing of luxuries, the Spanish colonists bedecked themselves, using precious metals in personal decoration for pageantry and a show of power. The jewelry rivaled that of Europe, and from the dexterous hands of indigenous weavers using new materials and dyes came sumptuous garments of silk and velvet.
