Short day trips that are easy to get to

moo logo

Short day trips are a nice, quick way to get away from our daily lives and rejuvenate. Living here in Santa Fe, we sometimes forget about places we can visit that are within a short driving distance, but would provide us with an experience we don’t get every day. Here are some day trip options that are within an hour’s drive of Santa Fe!

Located 25 miles east of Santa Fe, the Pecos National Monument is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The monument contains the ruins of an old Spanish mission, and Pecos Pueblo, a major trading place between the Pueblos and the tribes from the Great Plains.

Ghost Ranch, which is located about 45 miles west of Santa Fe, offers none other than the beauty of our area. You can enjoy multiple hiking trails, horseback riding, rafting, and tours which feature locations of scenery painting by Georgia O’Keeffe. Dinosaurs once roamed the grounds, and paleontologists have found fossils throughout the area. You can also take a tour to learn about those fossils, as well as the history of the ranch.

From hiking trails to various tours throughout our area, there are countless day trips available for all ages. I encourage you to visit our local historical parks, and enjoy the scenery and beauty New Mexico has to offer. More day trip options can easily be found on the Santa Fe website.
