Should You Rent Or Buy

If you are currently a homeowner in Santa Fe or Tesque, you may not even be thinking of renting. However, both renting and home ownership can be very beneficial.

Renting can be a great option if you are considering downsizing your home. It is also a great option for older couples and individuals. Often, renting either a condo or home means the property is smaller, has less bedrooms, and most times your maintenance is included in your monthly rent. You will not have to worry about fixing your dishwasher when it breaks, and in some cases you won’t need to be concerned with landscaping or any outdoors maintenance.  There are some downsides to renting.  For example, painting, installing new carpeting, or any structural change to the home is prohibited.  In other words you would not be permitted to add a patio to the property.

Owning a home of course means you are permitted to build a patio, have an addition built, paint, install hardwood flooring – it is your home. However, you are obligated and responsible for all the home maintenance such as landscaping, fixing appliances (or hiring someone to fix them), and ensuring the home is repaired properly so it lasts for many years to come. The luxury of having the ability to change anything throughout your home when you want is very enticing to many.
