Spruce Up Your Home

Everyone knows that a first impression is the best way to sell your home.  You have heard the term “Curb Appeal” many times.

A nice looking home from the front can add as much as 10% to the price of your.  So basically for every $100,000 your home is worth, you can add another $10,000 to the price is your lawn is show quality.  This article will give you a few of my tips on how to spruce up your yard to sell your home.

  • Start your yard work at least 1 month prior to listing your house.  If you have already listed it, well then this won’t help.
  • Use plants in pots and other containers around your doorways and patios.  Use larger plants when possible.
  • Weed your flower gardens.  No one wants to see weeds, make the perspective buyer think it will be easy to keep it weed free.
  • Add mulch, bark, or gravel that helps make your home look great.  Of course you need to do the weeding mentioned above prior to adding new ground cover.
  • Add a lot of color to your home, especially on the walk way leading to your front door.  Yellow is a selling color, consider plants that are seasonal and have yellow flowers.  Avoid plants with thorns.
  • Trim your trees and shrubs, so that they look nice.  Trees that rub against your house are concerning for most home buyers.
  • Remove plants that are dead, looking bad or not in season.  People don’t want to see a plant that is not full of life and beautiful.
  • If you have plants you want to take with you, dig them up now and put them in pots that you can take with you.
  • If you have water feature make sure it is clean and algae free.  Make sure your water is crystal clear and the pond, stream or fountain is gorgeous.
  • Repair outdoor facet leaks.  They look horrible and buyers don’t want to see that.
  • Fix drainage issues.  No one will like your home if it is full of puddles as they walk in the yard.
  • Add nice looking labeling to your plants.  Buyers will like to know what the beautiful plant is.
  • Use a power washer on your sidewalks, patios and driveways.  This will definitely make the home look good.
  • Mow your yard in straight lines right before your house is shown to perspective buyers.
  • Trim around sidewalks, driveways and patios.  This gives your lawn a neat appearance.
  • Ask your Realtor® for tips on making your home look better.
